HEAT EXCHANGERS

HRS Heat Exchangers are global specialists in heat transfer technology with decades of experience in designing and manufacturing heat exchangers and other components.

We can supply stand alone heat exchangers, as well as complete process plants for a range of industries including environmental, bioenergy, food and pharmaceuticals. We are able to scale and customize installations to your exact requirements and are happy to discuss bespoke requests where appropriate.

Our heat exchangers fall into three main categories:

Corrugated Tube Heat Exchangers

Using HRS’ corrugated tube technology, both heat transfer and efficiency are increased over standard smooth tube heat exchangers. In addition, potential fouling is minimized, making it possible to supply more compact and economical heat exchangers. HRS offers a wide product range, with models developed for various types of industries, manufactured from stainless steel. Bespoke designs and other materials are also available.

HRS offers three types of corrugated tube heat exchangers:

Scraped Surface Heat Exchangers

HRS Heat Exchangers designs and manufactures two types of scraped surface heat exchangers  (HRS UNICUS Series and HRS R Series) for applications where fouling causes heat transfer rates to drop, or viscous fluids have very low heat transfer rates.

Fouling is a major problem in heat transfer technology. Fouling occurs when fluids degrade near the tube wall and layers of solids deposit or stick to the tube wall. These layers work as an insulator and prevent effective heat transfer. Another form of fouling is crystallization where, due to cooling or increasing concentration, components in the fluid are deposited on the heat exchanger surface. Scraping the heat transfer surface to remove these layers of fouling maintains high heat transfer rates in such situations.

In general, the more viscous the fluid, the lower the heat transfer rate, so that very viscous fluids require very large heat areas for heat transfer. Scraped surface heat exchangers mix the fluid vigorously, which increases the amount of fluid coming into contact with the heat exchange surface. This increases the heat transfer rates and the required heat exchange area is reduced.

Plate Heat Exchangers

HRS plate heat exchangers are ideal for applications where the fluids have relatively low viscosity with no particles. They are also an ideal choice where product outlet temperature is close to the service inlet temperature.

Plate heat exchangers consist of thin, corrugated plates packed inside a frame, with the product in alternate channels, and service fluid in between product channels. The compactly designed HRS plate heat exchangers range consists of a number of herringbone patterned, pressed heat transfer plates. These are assembled in an inverse formation to create two sets of parallel channels, one for each liquid. Since the herringbone patterns point in opposite directions, a large number of points of support are achieved, creating a lattice in each channel. This provides a high level of turbulence, which in turn leads to an elevated rate of heat transfer.

Multi Tube Heat Exchangers

As the name suggests, a multi tube heat exchanger uses more than one tube to carry the product. The product to be heated or cooled flows through the interior tubes. The media fluid flows through the surrounding shell. HRS produces a range of different multi tube heat exchangers for use in a wide range of…
